World Refugee Day 2017
WE ARE IN THE MIDST OF THE WORLD’S WORST REFUGEE CRISIS IN HISTORY.
More than 65 million people are now counted as forcibly displaced by the United Nations. That’s like the entire population of the UK or France, or about as many as everyone in New York state, Texas and Florida — all forced from their homes. And just over one-third of these people are refugees (people forced to flee their countries because of persecution, war, or violence).
Every minute 20 people leave everything behind to escape war, persecution or terror. Children are disproportionately affected – more than half of the refugees are under 18.
This year, Embrace Relief will distribute food packs to Syrian refugees and IDPs (internally displaced people) in Iraq on World Refugee Day right before Eid al-Fitr, so at least they can enjoy the holiday better.
